About Maharashtra Din: Maharashtra Day, also known as Maharashtra Din, is celebrated on May 1st every year to mark the formation of the state of Maharashtra. On this day in 1960, Maharashtra was formed by merging the former Bombay State with the princely state of Maharashtra and the Vidarbha region of the former Central Provinces and Berar. The Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti (SMS) was at the forefront of this movement, which demanded the creation of a separate Marathi-speaking state comprising the Bombay State and the Marathi-speaking regions of the Central Provinces and Berar. The demand was finally met on May 1st, 1960 when Maharashtra was officially formed.
